South Yorkshire leisure trust first to achieve top energy efficiency certificate

A Sheffield leisure charity has become the first in the UK to be awarded a prestigious energy efficiency certificate.

The Sheffield City Trust (SCT) Group, which operates 17 sports and entertainment facilities, including Sheffield City Hall and the English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EIS Sheffield) has been accredited with the ISO 50001 energy certificate. It is the first sports and leisure trust in the country to achieve the energy standard, and follows on from the Trust's achievement of the Carbon Trust Standard in 2014 which was also a first by a sports and leisure trust. ISO 50001 is the very latest energy management system and enables organisations to monitor their energy consumption in finer detail than ever before. After application and three audit stages, the Trust was granted the ISO 50001 in recognition of its commitment to reducing energy usage, in line with the government's 2020 plan. SCT has already achieved its five-year target of 15% in just three years and is on course to achieve its energy reduction target for 2030 by the year 2020 10 years early.
