South Yorkshire Mayor delighted businesses are backing Blunkett rail review

3rd June 2025

In response to the letter from Yorkshire businesses calling on the Government to back the Blunkett rail review, South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard said:

“Last month, I joined the Mayors of West Yorkshire and York and North Yorkshire at the launch of Lord Blunkett’s Review into rail connectivity in Yorkshire.

“That Review, commissioned by our White Rose partnership, called for a £14.6m investment into our rail network.

“Today, businesses across Yorkshire have backed our calls for that investment. I’m delighted to see our communities speaking out in support of the Review’s recommendations.

“Being able to travel to, from and within Yorkshire is not an optional extra. It’s something our business community needs to be able to drive the growth we so desperately need across Yorkshire and across the UK.

“I recognise the challenges around extra investment. But I also know we share our huge ambitions for growth with the government. And I know this government will hear our communities loud and clear.”
