South Yorkshire Teenagers Invited To Life Beyond GCSEs Careers Evening

South Yorkshire teenagers are being urged to think about life beyond their exams and attend a higher education careers evening supported by a live performance from a celebrity boyband.

Some of the region's top universities as well as local colleges and employers are attending the Life Beyond GCSEs event that takes place next week. Celebrity boyband New Kings Order, of The X Factor fame, will also be making a special appearance and staging a live performance. Hosted by UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, a technical school based on Sheffield's cutting edge Olympic Legacy Park, the careers evening on Tuesday, November 27th, from 5pm to 7pm, will provide the latest information on higher education including apprenticeships and degree courses. Sarah Clark, Principal of UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, said: -We are delighted to host this higher education event which will provide a fantastic opportunity for students from across the region to find out about the exciting careers and subject options available to them beyond their GCSEs. The event is aimed at students aged 15 and 16 those in Year 11 - and their parents and carers, as they get ready to take their GCSEs this academic year and start thinking beyond their exams about their Post 16 subject options and what they want to do career wise in the long term. Around 20 organisations are attending including the University of Huddersfield, University of Leeds, University of Nottingham, University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University, Longley Park Sixth Form College, The Sheffield College, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Higher Education Progression Partnership South Yorkshire (HeppSY+). Visitors will also be able to find out more about UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park on Old Hall Road, Attercliffe Common, which offers 13 to 19-year-olds academic qualifications as well as technical specialisms in computing, health sciences and sport science. A presentation on Post 16 options at the UTC will take place from 6.30pm to 7.00pm.
