Stars of the Green Baize Full of Praise

Stars of the green baize were full of praise for the course at Hallamshire when they staged a charity golf day.

Former world champions Steve Davis, Ken Doherty, Shaun Murphy and many others from snooker joined promoter Barry Hearn and BetFred at club for an afternoon AM AM in support of the Paul Hunter Foundation. In all 20 teams of snooker players, celebrities and supporters competed in the event which followed the live draw of the final stages of the 2015 World Snooker Championships being held at the Crucible Theatre. The Paul Hunter Foundation was established in 2006 with the aim of giving disadvantaged, able bodied and disabled youngsters an opportunity to play snooker. The star died of cancer in October 2005, aged 27. The golf day, attended by Paul's father, Alan Hunter, was dedicated to his memory and fund raising for his Foundation. Ken Doherty thought Hallamshire was excellent. He said: -It's a beautiful course, I really enjoyed the challenge and I definitely want to come back and play it again. Meanwhile, Steve Davis would probably have failed to win any of his six snooker world championships if the tables featured the borrows on Hallamshire's greens. He quipped: -It was awful! The course was in such good condition it highlighted every part of my game that was weak. None of my usual excuses could be used!
