Steel City Beer Festival returns to Kelham Island

16th September 2016

For the third year in a row, the Steel City Beer & Cider festival will take over Kelham Island Museum for 4 days in October.

From Wednesday 19th through to Saturday 22nd, real ales fans will descend on the iconic building on Alma Street, Sheffield. Almost 200 volunteers will be working hard in the coming weeks to ensure the festival is ready for the official opening by the Mistress Cutler Dr. Julie Edwards at 5 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon. Over 300 real ales and ciders will be available, with a particular emphasis on Sheffield 's own breweries. An additional room has increased capacity and will feature the festival's first Craft Keg bar, as well as an international bottle bar. Festival Organiser Louise Singleton said "The Festival has found it's spiritual home in Sheffield's 'Valley of Beer' and this year's extra capacity will enable even more visitors to see what a fantastic event this is." Live music features on 3 of the evenings, with soul band The Basement on Thursday, rock n roll locals Vegas 6 on Friday, finishing with rockabilly band The slingshots on Saturday. Loxley Silver Brass Band will appear in their usual Saturday afternoon spot. A good range of food stalls, Tombola and Games stalls, and CAMRA's own book stall selling all things beer-related will further add to the atmosphere. Friday night is also fancy dress night for staff and visitors and this year's theme of Sci-Fi should guarantee some interesting costumes. The festival has chosen Sheffield Children's Hospital as this year's charity and will be offering drinkers the chance to donate their unused beer tokens at the end of the night.
