Student Athletes Head to International Competition
20th July 2015
A team of students and staff from Sheffield Hallam University travel to Italy this week to represent the University in the European Universities Volleyball Championship.
The men's first team, which consists of eight Sheffield Hallam students, will be up against 12 other European universities, including University of Warsaw in Poland and University of Valencia in Spain. The volleyball team will be joined by staff and students delivering coaching, physiotherapy and media support. Performance athlete support officer Helen Roberts, who works with the team on the University's Talented Athlete Support Scheme, said: "This is a great chance for our athletes to be a part of an international competition. They will be up against some really tough teams, and it's an opportunity to showcase their skills and ability to work together." A total of 27 athletes are benefiting from the Talented Athlete Support Scheme (TASS) at Sheffield Hallam, including six members of the volleyball squad. Sheffield Hallam is one of only 10 universities to have been awarded TASS National Hub status, and it is the National Performance Centre for volleyball and hockey. The European Universities Volleyball Championship 2015 takes place in Camerino, Italy, from Sunday 19 to Sunday 26 July.
