Students get Work-Wise at Sheffield Engineering Company

3rd November 2014

Andrew Crowhurst and Riley Steer, students at StockbridgeHigh School, have enhanced their CV and career prospects, after undertaking a work placement at President Engineering Group Ltd (PEGL) in Sheffield, as part of the Cutler's Ambassadors' programme run by Work-wise.

During their placements, Andrew and Riley spent time in a number of different departments in the company, including Production Engineering, Design Engineering, Marketing, Purchasing, Finance, Assembly and Dispatch. Both Riley and Andrew also worked closely with Engineers on CAD programmes and were able to create their own product designs using design engineering package Solidworks. Marie Cooper, Finance Director at President Engineering Group said: -We are delighted to be one of the supporters of the Cutlers' Ambassadors programme for the second year running.  The programme is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain some real life experience of working in a manufacturing environment.  It also gives them the chance to try their hand in a number of different departments to find out what suits them best. Marie added: -All our staff who worked with Riley and Andrew were impressed with their enthusiasm to learn and their really professional attitudes.  Working with the students and seeing them adapt to a manufacturing environment in such a short space of time is one of the reasons why we support the great work done by Work-wise.  The programme is a great way for employers to invest in the future of young people and to set them on the right track in their careers.  We look forward to being able to offer Work-wise students placement opportunities in the future. Both Andrew and Riley attended a Summer Camp Graduation Event in October 2014 at Cutler's Hall in Sheffield, where they, along with the other students of the work-wise programme, were recognised for their involvement.  The students also presented certificates to Work-wise ambassadors, such as President Engineering Group Ltd. John Barber, Work-wise associate, said: -President Engineering is leading by example and showing that if employers support young people in preparing them for the world of work, this is not only good for the students, but great for businesses too.
