Supercar Driver members have swapped their high end supercars for colouring pencils to raise over £2,000 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

The Sheffield-based club of supercar owners have now raised an astonishing £152,000 for Bluebell Wood over the past few years, as well as wowing families with the chance to see some of the finest cars on the planet at the hospice every Easter.

The club’s planned ‘Secret Meet’ at Donington Park, where owners donate money to the charity to attend the special event, unfortunately had to be cancelled this year after raising £22,500 for Bluebell Wood in 2019.

Instead, Supercar Driver came up with a novel, if slightly more sedate, way to raise money to help support local children and families. The club produced a supercar themed colouring book for sale to members, raising a whopping £2,000.

Each and every penny raised will help families like eight-year-old Jacob White’s, who has been supported by his ‘home away from home’ Bluebell Wood since 2015.

The young car-lover has gone through more in his short life than most of us do in a lifetime, including heart problems, chronic lung disease and suffering a massive bleed on his brain at birth.

“He just loves cars, especially the ones that go really fast! He’s got very expensive taste,” said mum Kerry, from Maltby.

“The drivers are always so generous with him and he even got the chance to go for a spin one year – as a passenger, of course.

“He also likes to sit in them and press all the buttons, which always worries me in case he breaks something, but everyone is so nice to him.

“He really does get so much out of the whole experience. He just loves everything about it.”

As well as producing 1,000 copies of the colouring book for members, 50 more were produced for children who are supported by Bluebell Wood. The book, which was produced in collaboration with Manson Group and Michelin Tyres, features iconic images from Supercar Driver events over the years.

Adam Thorby, Director of Supercar Driver, said: “The partnership with Bluebell Wood means a great deal to us here at Supercar Driver.

“We have had some unforgettable experiences over the years and we’re delighted to be able to make a difference to local children and families who need support more than ever right now.

“We’re very much looking forward to visiting the hospice and seeing the families in person once again when the time is right.”

Eye-watering sums have also been raised from The Supercar Experience at Meadowhall over the past four years where members of the public have donated to the charity for the opportunity to sit or take a spin in a super or hyper car.

Rachael Dawes, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Bluebell Wood, said: “It really is a special partnership with Supercar Driver that has made an incredible difference to the families we support.

“As well as helping to fund our life-changing work through the phenomenal sums donated over the past ten years, we’ve been able to give the children and young people wonderful experiences many of us can only dream of.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to Supercar Driver and all its members for their ongoing support and we look forward to making many new memories in the years to come.”
