Supertram Rail Replacement Scheme - Public drop-in events March 2019

Following the essential works carried out in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018, engineering works are set to continue to replace a total of 22 kilometers of worn out sections of tram tracks across the Supertram network by 2024.

  The new rail will improve passenger comfort and reduce noise in areas where the track is currently worn. Who will be carrying out the works? VolkerRail will carry out the works having been successful in winning the contract for the remainder of the Rail Replacement project. The works have been broken down into three stages: Stage One: May 2018 September 2018 - COMPLETED Stage Two: April 2019 August 2019 Stage Three: Summer 2020 (dates to be confirmed). This year's Stage Two works will be split into five work areas around the Shalesmoor and Hillsborough section of the tram network, at various times between April and August in order to minimise passenger disruption. Works on Area 1, Hillsborough Corner and Middlewood Road, are set to begin over the Easter weekend from Friday 19 April.  Planned phases of work for stage two (2019) The proposed dates are as follows: Area Track affected Routes affected Proposed Date   Area 1 Hillsborough Corner and Middlewood Road Yellow Blue Friday 19 April Sunday 2 June Area 2 Shalesmoor towards Hillsborough Yellow Blue Purple Monday 3 June Thursday 18 July  Area 3 Shalesmoor Yellow Blue Purple Monday 22 July Thursday 25 July Area 4 Hillsborough Corner Holme Lane Yellow Blue Friday 26 July Friday 9 August Area 5 Glossop Road (University of Sheffield) Yellow Blue Purple Sunday 25 August Friday 30 August Area 1: Hillsborough Corner and Middlewood Road Area 1 works for 2019 are planned to start from Friday 19 April to Sunday 2 June 2019. Work will take place at Hillsborough Corner and along Middlewood Road towards Hillsborough Park. Yellow route services will run between Meadowhall and Hillsborough but with a change in frequency to normal. Replacement buses will operate between Hillsborough and Middlewood. Blue route services will run as normal between Halfway and Hillsborough with a change in frequency to normal.  Replacement buses will operate between Hillsborough and Malin Bridge. Purple Route and Tram Train Route services will not be affected and will operate as normal during this time. Will Malin Bridge Park and Ride and Middlewood Park and Ride still be open? Malin Bridge and Middlewood Park and Ride sites will remain open during these works. Park and Ride will be free whilst these essential works take place.  Customers will just need to buy their ticket on board.
