The rTMS Centre Sheffield - about us

2nd May 2017

The rTMS Centre is a private & discreet mental health clinic in Sheffield that provides an alternative treatment; repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) therapy for severe Depression.

A unique and advanced treatment that is safe, effective and an alternative to anti-depressant medication. rTMS is a novel and unique equipment and the technique involves placement of a small coil over the scalp, a rapidly alternating current is then passed through the coil wire, producing a magnetic field that passes through the brain. The procedure is completely non-invasive, painless and long-lasting. Furthermore, the key to the success of this treatment is that it stimulates areas of the brain that are key to mood control. The history of rTMS goes back to 1985 when Prof. Anthony Barker and colleagues first demonstrated magnetic stimulation successfully at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital of Sheffield. Consequently, this opened many opportunities for research and putting forward potential treatment procedures for a variety of diseases with depression treatment being the centre of its success. The rTMS Centre is the first TMS practice in South Yorkshire. At the rTMS Centre we concentrate on rTMS therapy with a thorough assessment of your treatment needs. In addition, we take a holistic approach towards our treatments and will work with you towards achieving your health goals. Testimonial: -My mood is much better. I no longer cry every day. I am more engaged with family and friends. I am driving again. I noticed no side effects. I would recommend it if prescribed for depression. My depression was resistant to many medications. I have returned twice for short term treatments when I felt my mood begin to drop. Both times TMS restored my mood.
