The Sheffield College is a finalist in a national diversity awards scheme

3rd March 2021

The Sheffield College is a finalist in a national awards scheme recognising commitment to equality and diversity.

The National Centre for Diversity’s FREDIE Awards 2021 celebrate the individuals and organisations going above and beyond in their commitment to fairness, respect, equality, diversity, inclusion and engagement.

The College has been shortlisted in two of the awards categories: FREDIE Lead of the Year and the Most Improved Organisation of the Year. Covering 14 categories, the awards winners will be announced at an online ceremony on May 20th, 2021.

James Smythe, Assistant Principal, Student Experience, and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead, The Sheffield College, said: “We are working hard for our student and staff community to put the values of fairness, respect, equality, diversity, inclusion and engagement at the heart of everything we do. It’s fantastic to receive national recognition of that.”

The FREDIE Awards shortlisting follows on from the College achieving the Investors in Diversity Award in June 2020.

To receive the accreditation, the College took a number of steps affirming its commitment to diversity. These steps included developing an action plan for equality, diversity and inclusion, and launching an equality scheme.

The College’s Equality Scheme 2020 to 2023 sets out how the organisation is taking steps to eliminate discrimination, advance equal opportunity and foster good relations.

The scheme also commits to putting the values of fairness, respect, equality, diversity, inclusion and engagement at the heart of everything the College does.
