The Sheffield College staff to tackle Three Peaks Challenge for charity

Sheffield College staff are putting their best feet forward and preparing to scale the highest mountains in Great Britain to fundraise for a local charity.

Twenty staff from across the College have signed up to the Three Peaks Challenge in the summer to raise £5,000 for Weston Park Cancer Charity.

The challenge involves walking the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) within 24 hours.

Louis Axcell, Curriculum Leader for Sport, based at the College’s Hillsborough Campus on Livesey Street, is organising the event.

He said: “Weston Park Cancer Charity is a significant charity in the city that has touched the lives of so many of our colleagues and students as well as their families. We want to play our part and give something back to a great cause.”

Louis added: “It’s been a really positive experience preparing for the challenge. The planning meetings have brought staff from different faculties together and the training has boosted our fitness and wellbeing. Students are also helping us with fundraising and promotion.”

The team taking part includes staff from animal care, business, student enrichment and sport as well as colleagues who work with students who have special educational needs and disabilities. The total walking distance is 23 miles and the total ascent is 10,052 feet.

Due to the intensity of the challenge, the group is completing training walks and expeditions over several months in the run up to the challenge that takes place from June 25th to 26th. Visit https://www.tsc3peaks.co.uk/ to find out more about the team’s preparation.

Weston Park Cancer Charity is based in Weston Park Hospital. It is one of 18 cancer medical centres in the UK.
