THE YORKSHIRE POST NOW AVAILABLE ON iPAD PLUS BRAND NEW YORKSHIRE FOOTBALL APP FOR iPHONE

2nd April 2012

A new era for Yorkshire's national newspaper is beginning with the launch of two apps for iPad and iPhone users.

The Yorkshire Post iPad app, available on the Apple App Store from Saturday, March 3, is a first for the regional press and the first multimedia news app on the iPad dedicated to England's largest county. In addition, the paper's football app for the iPhone takes regional football coverage to a new level, with live match data, results, league tables, reports and much more all delivered free. Peter Charlton, Editor of the Yorkshire Post, said: These are major developments which keep the Yorkshire Post up to speed with the latest media technology. Tablets and smartphones will play an increasingly dominant part in the way people access information and this is one of the most important steps forward in the Yorkshire Post's 258-year history. It is a very different experience to reading online and having been at the forefront of that newspaper revolution over ten years ago it is fitting that we are in the midst of this one. The Yorkshire Post's iPad app brings a -best of both worlds approach to the tablet device, delivering each morning's complete printed paper with all supplements, plus a digital-only edition containing up-to-the-minute coverage and exclusive video and audio content. The print version is presented in a new format for the iPad, with users able to zoom in and out of articles at will. The -live Digital iPad version includes: - Regional, national and local news, updated throughout the day - Up-to-date business coverage, including breaking early stories from the markets. - Leading-edge analysis and opinion from our commentators and columnists, including Bernard Ingham and Ian McMillan. - The best in football, cricket and rugby league coverage. - News from Yorkshire's rural communities - The Yorkshire Post's award-winning audio programmes and unique video features from across the county. The Print iPad version lets users: - Effortlessly flip through every page of current and past editions - Browse front pages in an iTunes-style -coverflow display - Display pages individually or side-by-side - Download pages or whole editions to read when not connected to the internet. The Digital and Print iPad versions are included in the same app, which is free for the first 30 days and costs £7.99 per month thereafter. It will to appeal to regular readers, subscribers and users of the YorkshirePost.co.uk website, and offers the opportunity to grow readership amongst iPad users, business travellers, sports fans, expats and commuters. The app will be sponsored by East Coast for the first four months. East Coast runs the main line train service between Yorkshire and London. There will be ongoing opportunities available for sponsors and advertisers. Separately, the Yorkshire Post is launching a football app for iPhone users, with a version for Android phones to follow shortly. This app lets football fans see the Yorkshire Post's coverage of their club and delivers live, match-day scores, results and text commentary, plus a range of other statistics. The football app is available free from Apple's App Store. Its launch follows the release last December of an all-new mobile version of the Yorkshire Post's website, which is viewable on all smartphone platforms.
