Thomson announces flight expansion at Doncaster Sheffield Airport

30th April 2014

Thomson and First Choice will be increasing capacity at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield by 10,000 departing seats through the introduction of two new routes during summer 2015.

The international airport will offer once-a-week flights to Antalya in Turkey and the Greek island of Zante from May 2015 two new routes for Thomson from South Yorkshire, taking the total amount of destinations provided by Thomson and First Choice from Doncaster Sheffield Airport to 20. The new routes are now on sale. Thomson and First Choice have also added a second flight a week to the Tunisian destination of Enfidha due to the popularity of the route from Doncaster Sheffield Airport in recent years. Local customers will have access to some of Thomson and First Choice's most popular flagship hotels. These include the brand new for summer 2015 Thomson Sensatori Resorts in Ibiza and Turkey's Dalaman region. Meanwhile, the operator has added an extra flight to the Egypt resort of Sharm el Sheikh from October 2014 to run during the winter period. Sharm el Sheikh, situated on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, continues to be a popular location for tourists all year round. Chris Harcombe, head of aviation development at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: -We are delighted to be able to offer more seats for passengers through Thomson and First Choice during the coming winter and summer periods. -The airline continues to show magnificent support for the airport, which is great news for the region. Flights to Antalya and Zante will be new destinations for summer 2015 from Doncaster Sheffield Airport and provide more choice for passengers. -Changes to frequencies also mean increased flexibility with 7, 10, 11 and 14-night holidays available across a range of destinations. Karen Switzer, Director of Aviation Planning for Thomson and First Choice, added: -Adding additional capacity from Doncaster Sheffield Airport and the introduction of new Turkish and Greek routes demonstrates our commitment to South Yorkshire and the local area, and following the success of similar routes across a number of regional airports, we know that the demand is there. -Expanding access to our portfolio of destinations and hotels is a key part of our overall strategy and we hope that this move will enhance the holiday experience for our customers.
