16th July 2013

While the senior teams will play for the first time in 14 years at Wembley, the night before will see the Young Lions take on their Scottish counterparts at Bramall Lane on Tuesday 13 August, kick off at 7.30pm. It will be the first time the two nations have gone head to head at Under-21 level since 1993. The first match between the two sides came in 1977 and was also played at Bramall Lane, as England ran out winners with a solitary goal from Laurie Cunningham. In that spirit the fixture will form part of Kick It Out's 20th anniversary commemorations, with activity around this game highlighting the work done since the formation in 1993. As part of The FA's 150th anniversary celebrations this fixture will also plays a key part in highlighting an area of immense football history. FA Director of Football Development Sir Trevor Brooking said: "In a week that will see Scotland return to Wembley for the first time in more than a decade, it can only add to the atmosphere that our Under-21 sides will also meet the night before. "I remember the days when we would play Scotland every year, it is the oldest fixture in international football and one that fans show an enormous amount of enthusiasm for. "Sheffield has a great deal of football history, and it is only right that we take such an exciting fixture to Bramall Lane as part of the wider FA 150 activity this year."
