The announcement came afore a recent visit by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, Mrs Val Downing to Weston Park Cancer Support Centre, to see first-hand just some of the vital support services funded by charitable donations.
During the visit, the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress met with some of the hospital's younger patients and were shown around the newly refurbished wards, which go -Beyond the Treatment to ensure patients feel as comfortable as possible whilst receiving cutting-edge cancer care. They also visited the Weston Park Cancer Centre radiotherapy department, which is the busiest radiotherapy department in the UK and the only department in South Yorkshire. On the partnership, CEO at Weston Park Cancer Charity, Samantha Dixon, said: -We are absolutely delighted to be nominated by The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Tony Downing as one of his chosen charities for what will be another busy year for Weston Park Cancer Charity. -This exciting opportunity offers the prospect of promoting the pioneering work our Charity funds across the city and beyond, while reaching new communities and supporters affected by cancer, meaning that as more people than ever before are set to face a cancer diagnosis, we will be there to provide practical help to those in need, emotional support to those in despair and enhanced care for those who need it most. -We are delighted that the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress took time out to visit Weston Park Cancer Centre and would like to take this opportunity to thank for them both for their support. -We are looking forward to all the opportunities the next 12 months will bring. Tony wrote a special thank you to Weston Park Cancer Charity and Cancer Support Centre, for -helping to create a better life for his grandson, who was successfully treated at Weston Park Cancer Centre as a teenager. The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Tony Downing said: -My family experienced first-hand the trauma of having a loved one diagnosed with cancer but the medical expertise and caring support we received was second to none. We will be forever grateful. On 31 May, the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress got the partnership off to a glamorous start by attending the Weston Park Cancer Charity Race Evening at Doncaster Racecourse, which saw vital funds raised in support of those living with cancer across the region. The partnership, which will run in conjunction with The Children's Hospital Charity, Sheffield Sea Cadets & Royal Marine Cadets, will see a host of events held throughout 2019/20 to raise funds and awareness. Weston Park Cancer Charity is the only dedicated charity working to support Weston Park Cancer Centre and exists to create a better life for everyone living with cancer, both now and in the future.
