Trailblazing SIV reach the finals at the Flame Awards

16th May 2017

Sheffield-based SIV have made it to the finals of a prestigious national award with a staggering four nominations.

The leisure operator has been shortlisted as Operator of the Year at the ukactive Flame Awards 2017 for the fifth year in a row, with three of their venues also nominated in a different category. The English Institute of Sport Sheffield, Concord Sports Centre, and Ponds Forge International Sports Centre have made it to the final stage of the Leisure Centre of the Year Multi-Use category, having achieved 'excellent' status. SIV, which is part of the not-for-profit Sheffield City Trust, is the only single-city operator in the final of the Operator of the Year category, and the only leisure provider to have three venues shortlisted for Leisure Centre of the Year Multi-Use. In previous years, SIV have celebrated major success at the Flame Awards, with Hillsborough Leisure Centre winning the Leisure Centre of the Year Multi-Use title four consecutive years (2005 2008), and the company has been finalists in Operator of the Year for the last five years. SIV's primary objective is to improve the health and wellbeing of Sheffield people by providing facilities for sport and leisure activities. Steve Brailey MBE, SIV chief executive, said: -We are delighted to be shortlisted as both Operator of the Year, and have three of our venues shortlisted in the Leisure Centre of the Year Multi-Use category. -The Flame Awards attract entries from across the country and are considered to be a huge event in the leisure industry, so to be recognised by ukactive puts SIV in a fantastic position. -Through continual investment in our venues, facilities, and staff, we make sure to provide the very best service to all our customers. -As a Sheffield-based operator, we're in a unique position to understand the needs of the city, developing initiatives such as the Plus One scheme, offering free access to our venues for carers of disabled users, unique partnerships with local GPs for our Exercise Referral Scheme, as well as innovative classes such as soccercise, helping the people of Sheffield feel good by being active. The ukactive Flame Awards celebrate innovation and excellence across the health, fitness, and physical activity sector. The awards will be announced on 28 June at Telford International Centre.
