Turning Yorkshire Yellow for Le Tour!
29th July 2013
Tourism bosses have joined forces with Tourist Information Centres across the region to start turning Yorkshire yellow before the Tour de France comes to the county in 2014.
Within days of this year's race finishing Christian Prudhomme, Tour de France Director, has made a flying visit to the county to see how it is preparing for the biggest annual sporting event in the world. The Grand Départ will see riders race from Leeds to Harrogate on July 5 and then York to Sheffield on July 6, 2014. Julie Rice, director of the Sheffield-based Evolution Print who produced the Tour de France pop ups, said: -It's incredibly exciting to be involved in helping promote the world's most famous bike race coming to our very own county. As we get closer, more and more people are started to realise how big this will be for Yorkshire and to play a part in its promotion is fantastic for us all at Evolution. -Whether you love cycling or just want to witness an amazing spectacle, Yorkshire's Grand Départ will be massive. Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire who led the winning bid for Le Tour, said: -Working with Evolution Print and our TIC partners, we can help ensure that visitors right across Yorkshire will be aware of this massive event happening right here next year. It is the biggest free show on earth and Yorkshire will be the focus of the world's attention which can only be good for tourism and the wider business economy.
