University appoints new assistant dean

Sheffield Hallam University has appointed Professor Simon Bromley to the role of Assistant Dean, responsible for academic development in the University's Faculty of Development and Society.

Professor Bromley will join the University in January 2014. He is currently senior lecturer in politics and international studies at the Open University. Professor Bromley said: "I'm very pleased to be going to the UK's third largest university, and one that is really putting teaching quality and an excellent student learning experience at the front of all its work. I am looking forward to working with colleagues to enhance the excellence of our teaching and learning, especially in relation to education for employment." He has worked in various senior roles at the Open University, including associate dean, and dean and director of studies for the Faculty of Social Sciences. He has published research on the political economy of the oil industry, globalisation and the nature of the United States' power in the international political system.Professor Bromley has lectured in this field at Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Leeds, as well as the Open University. Professor John Leach, Pro Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Development and Society at the University, said: -It's great news that we have attracted someone of Simon's calibre. He will be responsible for making sure that we offer an academically coherent and challenging curriculum that meets the needs of current and future students, employers and professional bodies. "Simon will ensure our courses are of very high quality, so that our students will be well-placed to meet their future ambitions at the end of their studies with us.
