Alex Reynolds, Principal of UTC Sheffield City Centre, said: “Our employer backed curriculum ensures our students have the latest world class skills that industry leaders in the engineering and manufacturing, and creative and digital media, sectors need for growth. We would look forward to welcoming the next generation of talent to the UTC.”
One student who has thrived at the UTC is Sophie Ellam, whose career ambition is to become an engineer within the armed forces.
Sophie has progressed onto Year 12 at the UTC after achieving strong grades in her GCSEs and technical qualifications. She is studying engineering, and building her technical knowledge and skills, as well as A Levels in further maths, maths and physics.
Sophie said: “It’s been great studying at the UTC. When I heard about its specialist facilities and engineering equipment, I jumped at the opportunity to study there. It’s been good to study academic and technical courses and gain work experience with employers such as Rolls-Royce. It has prepared me well for my next steps.”
Sophie added: “I’ve always had a strong interest in STEM subjects and engineering is within my family. I love problem solving and being creative as part of that.”
The UTC, which is part of The Sheffield UTC Academy Trust, is fitted with the latest industry standard equipment. Employers supporting the UTC include AES Seal, Bauer Media Group, Fernite, Festo, Finger Industries, Hive, Inspec Solutions, Lavender International, PES Performance, Rolls-Royce, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield Live, the University of Sheffield, Siemens and Sumo Digital.
