Visit the Northern Lights in new flight from Doncaster Sheffield Airport

27th June 2014

Transun has announced a new one-off route to see the Northern Lights from Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield.

It will be the first four-night trip from the Yorkshire airport to see the Aurora Borealis via Sweden. The travel operator's Arctic Spirit trip will depart from Doncaster Sheffield Airport on 7 January 2015, landing in Kiruna, the northernmost town in Sweden. Travellers will visit a remote part of Lapland, with all the hotels and cabins on the official Northern Lights Route now an officially designated journey by the Scandinavian Governments due to the intensity of the Aurora in the region. The trip will include husky sleds and snowmobile rides, as well as a reindeer camp, forest trek and snow shoeing. There will also be an insightful talk about the Northern Lights by guest speaker and award winning astronomer Dr Stuart Clark. Dr Clark has a PhD in astrophysics and gives lectures at literary and science festival across the UK as well as chairing Astrofest, the UK's biggest astronomy conference. The once-in-a-lifetime package is available at £699 per person. Transun already provides a flight to the Northern Lights from Doncaster Sheffield Airport on November 28. This three-day excursion is via Enontekio in Finland. Meanwhile, the operator offers a very popular day-trip to see Santa in Lapland, flying from Doncaster Sheffield Airport on December 13. Families will be able to enjoy an unforgettable search for Santa's secret hideaway, before making a private visit to talk with him in his cabin. Plus, there will be reindeer rides, snowmobiles and husky dog sleds. Transun also offers an extended three-day 'Sleigh Bells Ringing' experience, which includes a reindeer sleigh ride, husky and snowmobile experiences and a private family meeting with Santa.
