Volunteer to Make a Difference in Education

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? Mercia Learning Trust is seeking dedicated individuals to serve as local governors across our seven schools, and trustees within our multi-academy trust in Sheffield.

About Us:
Mercia Learning Trust is a cross-phase trust serving diverse communities, committed to continuous improvement and inclusivity. Our schools are recognised for their effectiveness and sector-leading practices.

Governors:
Local Governors play a crucial role in supporting and challenging school leadership to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and academic success of all pupils. Key responsibilities include safeguarding, SEND provision, standards monitoring, and stakeholder engagement.

No specific qualifications are required, but a keen interest in education and a commitment to our trust values are essential. Experience in early years and safeguarding is advantageous. Training and ongoing support will be provided.

Trustees:
As a trustee, you will play a crucial role in providing strategic leadership, ensuring accountability, and fostering stakeholder engagement. We are seeking individuals with senior-level experience across various domains, including education, finance, HR, legal, and risk management to take on these voluntary roles.

Joining our board offers a unique opportunity for personal and professional development, as well as the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people in our community.

Board meetings occur six times a year, with additional committee meetings and support functions depending on individual expertise. Trustees serve a four-year term and receive induction and ongoing training.

Interested candidates can apply by submitting an application form, followed by an interview and pre-recruitment checks. Successful applicants will undergo an induction process to familiarise themselves with the role and responsibilities.
