Wadsworth the man for Sheffield FC

The world's oldest football club has a new manager with Premier League and England connections.

Sheffield FC has appointed Mick Wadsworth who worked under Sir Bobby Robson with England and at Newcastle. The appointment of Wadsworth has been described as a major coup for Sheffield of the Northern Premier League, Division One South division. Barnsley-born Wadsworth, aged 63, joins as 1st Team Manager bringing his vast experience across all levels of the game. Jordan Broadbent will be Assistant Manager moving up from his role with the U19's. Although his playing career spanned only one season in the Football League with Scunthorpe, followed by spells at non-league clubs, Gainsborough Trinity, Mossley and Frickley Athletic, Wadsworth has enjoyed a high profile coaching and managerial career. Previous clubs, where he was manager or assistant manager, include Carlisle, Norwich, Scarborough, Colchester, Newcastle, Southampton, Oldham, Huddersfield, Shrewsbury, Gretna, Chester City and Hartlepool. Also, he had an eight-year spell with the FA fulfilling a number of senior posts. He has managed overseas as well. His last post was with Sheffield United where he worked with Chris Morgan ahead of the appointment of Nigel Clough. Mick said; -I am delighted to be joining Club. It is a great set-up with ambitious plans to move up the football pyramid. I cannot wait to get started and make a difference. Sheffield FC director Bob Dyson said: -We have been in discussions with Mick for some time we delighted that he has accepted our offer. It is a fantastic coup for us. -He was impressed by our plans to move forward including our youth programmes, building on our community projects with the schools, colleges and Universities in the region and our relationships with the local professional football clubs.
