Wake Smith pledge support for South Yorkshire children’s hospice

25th May 2022

Sheffield solicitors Wake Smith will spend the next year raising money for South Yorkshire children’s hospice Bluebell Wood.

Wake Smith hopes to smash 2021’s total of £7,280 collected for St Luke’s Hospice and have already begun planning a host of fundraising activities for Bluebell Wood.

The charitable committee has a focus on many of the charity’s events coming up including the Ultimate Challenge, skydives, the Three Peaks Challenge, Mucky Pups, the Chesterfield 10k and volunteering days.

Isobel Wells, Regional Fundraiser at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice said: “We welcome Wake Smith to our essential team of fundraisers in the region.

“By choosing us as their charity for the year, they will be helping to care for children and young adults who are going through very tough times, both at home and at our hospice in North Anston.

“We want to make their fundraising journey with us, the best it can be.”

Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice opened in 2008 to help families who wanted an alternative to hospital care and since then has helped to support hundreds of children from across South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Lincolnshire.

The hospice offers services including respite and short breaks; family and sibling support; support for young adults; support for young adults; music therapy, physiotherapy; end of life care and bereavement support and costs more than £5m to run each year.

Kate Lax, solicitor at Wake Smith and charitable board member, said: “Bluebell Wood was chosen by our staff through a voting process.

“We have set an ambitious target of £5,000 for the next 12 months and are really looking forward to working with them to hit that figure.”

The Wake Smith charitable board includes Kate Lax, Lorraine Slack, Bridie Cowgill, Laura Saul, Hayley Naisbett, Stephanie Chung, Dylan Friend, Sophie Kerry and Millie Vaughan.

Its last charitable donation was £7,280 to St Luke’s Hospice through a host of events including A Million Steps Challenge, Virtual Christmas Lunch, Home Run Challenge, Dylan Friend’s Sky Dive, the Three Peaks Challenge and the Tough Mudder plus a staff quiz night, tuck shop, raffles, Great British Bake Off-style cake sales, sweepstakes and competitions, all during a difficult two years interrupted by COVID.
