Wake Smith's Scott Haslam wins Rising Star award

27th February 2023

Wake Smith Solicitors’ clinical and medical negligence solicitor Scott Haslam has won the Rising Star award at the Sheffield & District Law Society Awards 2023.

The Rising Star Award recognises a legal professional aged under 35, who has made significant impact in their time practising; been involved in interesting, challenging areas of law; shown a demonstrable dedication to clients and contributed to non-fee earning work related activities including marketing, new initiatives and made a broader contribution to the profession.

Scott joined Wake Smith in early 2016 expanding his clinical and medical negligence knowledge and gaining experience in conducting higher-value litigated claims in the busy team headed up by director and head of department Terry Regan.

The experienced solicitor was promoted to Associate in 2018 and became Wake Smith’s youngest Director aged 34 after achieving hard-fought results for a variety of claimants combined with excellent client care.

Scott said: “The Sheffield region, including South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire, has some fantastic legal talent. It was an absolute pleasure to celebrate the work done by lawyers in the region at this year’s Yorkshire Law Banquet, and to pick up the Rising Star award is a real honour.

“In reality, this award recognises the outstanding work and results we at Wake Smith consistently deliver for our clients. Terry Regan, as Head of Department, has provided invaluable guidance throughout the last few years of my career, and I could not do what I do without the support and assistance of the solicitors, paralegals and secretaries I work alongside.”

Terry Regan, director and head of the Clinical and Medical Negligence team at Wake Smith, said: “Clinical Negligence is a highly specialised area. Scott is a fine lawyer in his field, puts his clients at ease, smooths out the process and achieves great results. His award is well deserved.”

The winners were announced at the society’s annual black-tie dinner and industry excellence awards at the Yorkshire Law Banquet on Friday February 17 at the Royal Victoria Sheffield.
