Wanted - Board of Trustees
27th March 2013
SYEDA are looking to widen the skills on our Board of Trustees, in particular from people with skills in Human Resources, Finance, Management, Legal Affairs and Fundraising.
Board meetings occur every six weeks at Syeda. Occasionally there are additional meetings and/or activities during the year. If you are interested please contact the Chair Jenny Allen at SYEDA or info@syeda.org.uk SYEDA is a user-led charity which supports people affected by an eating disorder, both the sufferers and their carers parents, siblings, partners and friends. We help sufferers with mild to moderate eating disorders; offering a safe, confidential environment where people access help. People can self-refer through our website www.syeda.org.uk or by telephone. We offer a variety of treatments depending on what is most suitable for the individual counselling, CBT, complimentary therapy, etc. Carers can also access the relaxation and counselling therapies, again dependent upon their need. We teach carers strategies based on the Maudsley method to work alongside the sufferer to help them overcome their eating disorder. At SYEDA there is a monthly support group, one for sufferers and another for carers/supporters and a drop in group which runs every two weeks. We run -Bite Back a support group at the University, for students at both Sheffield & Hallam. Volunteers provide a mentoring and befriending programme which is very successful. There are books available for loan, leaflets and self-help programmes. We also deliver education programmes on Body Image for clients and at schools and colleges. -ONLY the sufferer can decide to get better and work towards recovery, but they cannot do it ALONE Research has shown that the earlier someone with an eating disorder accesses help and support, the less likely the eating disorder will take control and become entrenched, such that recovery is likely to be sooner and more successful.
