Yorkshire leisure operator up for three national awards
4th July 2014
The company which runs some of Yorkshire's leading sports venues is up for three national awards this week.
South Yorkshire-based SIV which is the operating arm of the charity, Sheffield City Trust (SCT), has received three nominations for the leisure industry's Flame Awards 2014, which are taking place this Wednesday, 2 July. SIV, which operates 17 sports and leisure facilities, is one of just five organisations across the country to be shortlisted for the coveted Leisure Centre Operator of the Year award. The other four shortlisted companies are all large national organisations. The English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EIS Sheffield) and Concord Sports Centre, both operated by SIV, have been shortlisted in the Leisure Centre of the Year Multi-use category. Steve Brailey, chief executive of the SCT and SIV said: -The Flame Awards are the Oscars of the leisure industry recognising best practice by clubs, gyms and sports venues up and down the country so we are delighted to have received three nominations. It is fantastic news that we are the only city operator in the UK that is shortlisted for the highly coveted Leisure Centre Operator of the year. SIV works hard to improve the health and well-being of Sheffield people and all revenue SIV generates is reinvested back into programmes and facilities in the city. In the last year the charity implemented an extensive investment programme including gym expansions and new fitness facilities, programming and technology to increase attendances. EIS Sheffield has world-class sports facilities for participation at every level from grassroots to Olympic champions, including Nicola Adams and Jessica Ennis-Hill. Concord Sports Centre welcomes more than 400,000 visitors every year and runs the biggest swim lesson programme in Sheffield. Steve added: -The success stories at EIS Sheffield and Concord demonstrate the breadth of our work in Sheffield to get more people more active and living longer. -From innovative and cutting-edge equipment at classes at EIS Sheffield to community focused fitness sessions at Concord for all ages and abilities, our venues are unique in offering something for everyone. -We are proud of the can do attitude of our knowledgeable and experienced team, which is always striving for excellence and we're continually focused on building on our success for the benefit of Sheffield people. The Flame Awards 2014 will take place at Telford International Centre. For more information about getting involved in sport or fitness in Sheffield visitwww.sivltd.com.
