Yorkshire Quizmaster Hits All The Right Notes

19th December 2014

A quizmaster from Yorkshire celebrated his 40th birthday by scoring 100 per cent on BBC Radio Two's cult Pop Master quiz show.

Dave Bill, from Skelmanthorpe, Huddersfield, took part in presenter Ken Bruce's show and scored 39 out of a possible 39, a feat that is only achieved approximately ten times per year, despite there being more than 500 contestants per year taking part. Dave works as a quiz writer and game developer for Sheffield city region business Redtooth, the largest supplier of pub quizzes to the UK, and as part of his role he writes new quiz questions and helps the company to host new events around the country. He works alongside TV quiz expert Mark Labbett, known for his role as 'The Beast' on the ITV hit quiz show The Chase, who took to Twitter to congratulate Dave soon after his appearance on the show. Labbett said on his Twitter account: -Happy 40th birthday to Dave Bill who has just scored a maximum on Ken Bruce's Pop Master. He will be a TV pro quizzer one day. Dave has now qualified for pop master's 2015 Champion League, where he will go head-to-head with other contestants who have scored 100 per cent throughout the calendar year. Dave, who captained his team 'The Lions' from the Black Bull pub in Shepley to the Great British Pub Quiz title in 2012, said: -I have long listened to Radio Two's Pop Master quiz show but I had never been on it myself, so I thought I would give myself a birthday present by taking part. -I'm delighted to have scored 100 per cent. As well as working for Redtooth I am also a huge music fan and a part-time DJ so all these factors definitely helped. -I look forward to testing myself in the 2015 Champion League and it's also a real ambition of mine to be a TV pro quizzer one day. Bring it on. Martin Green, managing director of Redtooth, based at Barlborough, near Sheffield, said: -It's great news that Dave has achieved something that doesn't happen very often. -He is a real asset to the company and working alongside Mark Labbett on our quiz team allows us to stake a claim as the ultimate quiz writing team in the country. -Few would bet against Dave following Mark Labbett onto our TV screens in the near future. Redtooth employs 20 people at its headquarters in North Derbyshire and a further 20 people across the UK and abroad. For more information visit www.redtooth.co.uk or call 01246 813713.
