Yorkshire Women Urged to Join Meadowhall Race for Life

15th May 2014

THOUNSANDS SIGN UP TO RUN RIVERSIDE ROUTE FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK Women across the region are being urged to make a stand against cancer by taking part in Cancer Research UK's Race for Life at Meadowhall Shopping Centre.

Event organisers are calling on mums, daughters, sisters, grandmas and friends to sign up for the 5K event which will take place on Sunday 8th June 2014. Every hour, around three people are diagnosed with cancer in the Yorkshire and Humber region*, so women and girls of all ages, shapes and sizes are needed to join together as a formidable army and tell cancer to 'jog on' at Meadowhall. Last year, 4,500 women took part in Race for Life at Meadowhall raising a fantastic £232,000. This year, organisers and Meadowhall Shopping Centre are upping the ante and hoping to smash last year's figure. Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK's doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across Yorkshire. Race for Life's senior event manager in the North, Laura Taylor, said: -Race for Life is a non-competitive event -  it really doesn't matter how fit or fast women are as long as they take part because it's all about joining together against a disease that affects so many of us. -Participants can walk, run or even dance along the course, so we urge local ladies everywhere to take the first step by signing up today. Meadowhall Events manager, Alex Caley said: -Race for Life is an exceptional event which unites women of many different ages and from all walks of life together against a common cause; beating cancer. -Off the back of last year's success, we are really pleased that Cancer Research UK has chosen to host the event at Meadowhall for the second year running. -This year we are pleased to announce that the event will take runners along a new riverside route, where they can expect a lively carnival atmosphere keeping them entertained and smiling along the way. We're encouraging our customers and staff alike to sign up and get involved.
