Youdan Trophy 2016 Gets Off to a Flying Start with Sheffield Wins

Some of the top young footballing stars from around the world got the first day of the 2016 Youdan Trophy off to a thrilling start in Sheffield yesterday (Monday, August 1st).

Nearly 800 players are competing in the tournament that is bringing international football of the very highest standard to the city. Two straight Sheffield wins put both United and Wednesday in the driving seat on day one. SUFC (U16s) won 2 1 against Derby County (U16s) whilst SWFC (U14s) beat Everton (U14s) 4 2. Teams from Rosenborg to Everton, Seattle Sounders to FC Basel and Newcastle United to Royal Antwerp have been competing against top-flight teams from the UK and  Europe in day one of the tournament. UK Premiership and Championship clubs include Watford, Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest Stoke City, Charlton Athletic, QPR  and Middlesbrough with Scotland represented by Glasgow Celtic and Glasgow Rangers. The Youdan Trophy international tournament has quadrupled in size from its 2015 debut and the organisers are developing it into the most prestigious tournament of its kind in Europe. The Youdan Trophy is bringing the next generation of Ronaldos and Beckhams to Sheffield and scouts from some of the world's biggest clubs were out in force to spot the stars of the future playing in Sheffield birthplace of the game. The Youdan Trophy continues all week until this Friday (August 5th). All games are free to attend. The finals take place at Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park on Friday, August 5th.
