Sheffield Visitor Economy
Sheffield can boast a series of visitor attractions that can rival anywhere in the country.
Sheffield Theatres is rated as a best complex outside London and regularly creates productions that reach the West End and Broadway. While Sheffield Museums has a unique relationship with the V & A which manifests itself in world class exhibitions not seen anywhere else in the UK.
Our public realm including the Peace Gardens and the Winter Gardens regularly wins national and international awards. We hope this will be extended by the ongoing development of Castlegate and the area around the Midland Station and the Chamber will work hard to make these happen.
It is however the development and marketing of Sheffield as the Outdoor City which really makes Sheffield stand out from the rest.
For many years we have enjoyed that space and facilities offered by the Peak District, much of which lies within the city boundary. It has established Sheffield as the climbing centre of the UK for instance.
An exciting proposal being developed is the creation of a very large, inner city extreme sports park, incorporating sports such as skiing and mountain biking to international standards. Added to facilities like the English Institute of Sport (the home of GB Boxing and Table Tennis), Sheffield offers unique opportunities for a wide range of activity seeking visitors.
Sheffield Chamber is fully supportive of these developments and works actively with partners to make them happen. It believes that the economic potential from these developments is massive and can underpin our economic success for many years to come.
