We know that workplace presenteeism and absenteeism is a huge issue in the UK. People coming to work feeling unwell, and underperforming is costing an average of 50 lost days of productivity/ worker/ year[1], and days lost to sickness is at a record high with average 9 days/ year.[2]
We also know that the biggest barrier to supporting staff health and wellbeing is managers feeling they don’t have the right skills or confidence to have the most helpful conversations[3]
Most other health and wellbeing training is aimed at helping people when they are already sick or unwell, whilst health coaching can help with that, it’s main power is building habits that keep people well, it’s prevention.
What is Health Coaching?
“Health and Wellness Coaching is a client-led, collaborative process that aims to promote self-management, self-empowerment and equip an individual to adapt positively to their internal and external environment to create a state of resilience through the pursuit of activities and a lifestyle that cultivates their whole-health continuum."[4]
We simply say – “health coaching is a set of skills and approaches that helps people to think and act well for themselves in pursuit of a healthy and happy life”

Who is this course for:
Any of your staff who are in a position to have health boosting conversations with other staff. It could be HR teams, line managers, or any employee with an interest in health and wellbeing. Often those with personal lived experience of illness are most effective. It can be used as a way of re-engaging staff who may be burnt out or struggling themselves, where you want to retain their skills and presence in the workplace.
What will course attendees gain?
Skills, knowledge and confidence to have a structured and tailored health coaching conversation with colleagues, friends or family. They will know how to help people think well about their health and take positive steps to look after themselves.
What will the business gain?
Having this internal capability will allow your organisation to offer proactive and preventative support for all your staff. Enabling these conversations (which can be formal or informal) catalyses staff to pursue new ideas and goals around their own health and wellbeing. It demonstrates a culture of care and compassion, and most importantly it improves productivity and reduces staff sickness and turnover. Ultimately it improves profitability by strengthening your greatest asset, your people.
